Rosstulla Baker Days: Supporting Engagement Through Curiosity & Attention Autism

4th Sep 2025

🌟 Rosstulla Special School Update: Supporting Engagement Through Curiosity & Attention Autism 🌟

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’re excited to share what we’ve been working on during our recent School Development Days—a time when staff come together to learn, reflect, and grow. These days are vital for helping us improve the learning experiences we offer your children.

🧠 What We Explored

Staff at Rosstulla took part in two key training sessions:

  • Curiosity Programme with Lorraine Scott from Attention Autism Ltd
  • Attention Autism Programme led by our own Key Stage 3 Leader, Gillian Currie, who has recently completed intensive training in England to become an accredited Attention Autism Trainer

These two approaches are deeply connected and share a common goal: to spark engagement and joyful learning for pupils with complex needs.

🔍 What Are Curiosity & Attention Autism?

Both programmes are designed to capture children’s attention, build communication skills, and create irresistible learning moments.

  • Curiosity encourages children to explore, wonder, and interact with the world around them. It’s about creating exciting, sensory-rich experiences that make learning irresistible.
  • Attention Autism is a structured approach that helps children develop attention and communication through fun, engaging activities.

🎯 Why This Matters

At Rosstulla, we are placing a strong emphasis on Engagement—making sure every child is actively involved in their learning. Curiosity and Attention Autism are powerful tools that support this goal and align with the Equals Curriculum, which we introduced in our last newsletter.

Together, these approaches help us:

  • Create meaningful learning experiences
  • Support communication and emotional development
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Make learning fun and accessible for all

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent Workshop Coming Soon!

I am sure you’ll want to see these approaches in action, so we are planning a Parent Workshop where we’ll:

  • Share videos of Curiosity and Attention Autism sessions
  • Explain how they support your child’s learning
  • Answer any questions you may have

Details will be shared soon—please keep an eye out!

Thank you for your continued support. We’re proud to be building a school community that celebrates curiosity, engagement, and joyful learning.
